This work examines science and technology from the perspective of human development and social transformation. In the first place, a historical view is offered, from scientific and industrial revolutions to contemporary challenges. After that, the Science, Technology, and Society (STS) approach is presented, emphasizing that science is not a neutral activity because it falls within a specific social and political context. This is complemented by the concepts of Technologies for Human Development (THD) and Digital Social Innovation (DSI), both understood as instruments for promoting collective well-being and democratic participation.
Finally, a number of international and local experiences are presented showing that it is possible to build a culture of equitable and sustainable technology. The work concludes that it is necessary to rethink science and technology in order to meet the challenges of the current ecosocial crisis.
