EB-Mercosur akordioa: ziurgabetasuna aliantza estrategikoan

The article analyses the EU-Mercosur Agreement as a geopolitical and geostrategic instrument rather than a mere trade treaty. After twenty-seven years of negotiation, it reproduces the classic centre-periphery pattern: the EU exports industrial goods and services, while Mercosur specialises in primary products.
It seeks secure access to critical raw materials and offers Mercosur a rules-based alternative to US and Chinese pressure. The winners are European industry and services and South American agriexporters; the losers, European intensive farming and Mercosur’s protected industry. It lacks equivalent industrial safeguards and subordinates environmental and labour protection to free trade.
