Throughout this document we will take a look to the development of the concept of colonialism, being the founder of many of the current political conflicts and the phenomenon that has shaped modern states. To this end, an approach to the origins of colonialism will be made throughout the text, which will later explain the historical phases of colonialism.
The core of the work is to address the differences between the theoretical framework of colonialism and settler colonialism, which has begun to be addressed in recent decades as a new theoretical framework to analyse different colonial development, giving more depth to the theoretical framework of the settler colonialism and its characteristics. Finally, some general conclusions will be offered.
